The largest solar spot in recent times has been observed in Kerala. The solar spot that appeared in Kerala on Monday was photographed by famous astronomer Surendran Punnassery.
The sunspot is larger than earth at the point where it faces the Earth. The current sunspot is named as AR 2936. It is dangerous to look at the sun or the sunspot with the naked eye. Only observe with a telescope fitted with approved solar filters. Sunspots appear in every 11 years. Solar spots are areas where the heat and light are less close to the surface of the sun. They rarely endanger communications satellites and the earth's power supply network.
