Javelin thrower Neeraj wins Asiad Gold

     Neeraj Chopra today became the first Indian javelin thrower to win an Asian Games gold medal as he shattered his own national record by clearing a distance of 88.06m here on Monday.   

     Chopra's gold is India's only second medal in javelin throw in Asian Games history after Gurtej Singh won a bronze in 1982 in New Delhi.

     The 20-year-old's winning threw came in his third attempt. He began with 83.46m and fouled the second attempt. Liu Qizhen of China was a distance second with a best throw of 82.22m while Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem won the bronze with a 80.75 effort.

     The Commonwealth Games and reigning Asian champion completely dominated the competition as he bettered his own national record of 87.43 which he had come up with in Doha during the first leg of the Diamond League series in May. None of the competitors in the field had a 85-plus throw this season.

     Chopra's biggest rival was expected to be Chao Tsun Cheng, who last year recorded a throw of 91.36m but the Chinese Taipei thrower could manage a best of 79.81 to finish fifth.

   Chopra is the world junior record holder of 86.48, has been in tremendous form this season as has consistently crossed the 85m mark. He won the Federation Cup in March with 85.94m, clinched a gold in the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games with a throw of 86.47m, before the 87.43 effort in Doha.

Sony announces their ad revenue from FIFA 2018

     After the successful completion of FIFA world cup tournament, Sony channel published some interesting reports. As per the report a total of 110.5 million viewers in India watched the FIFA World Cup tournament. The official broadcaster Sony Pictures Networks India (SPN) reports that  the tournament which kicked off on 14 June had 64 live matches aired across Sony Ten 2, Sony Ten 3 and Sony ESPN channels gives unexpected profit for the channel.

     The final match between France and Croatia held on 15 July was watched by 51.2 million viewers as per the calculations by the broadcaster. More than 70 million viewers watched the tournament on SPN’s video streaming platform SonyLIV.

     The total cumulative reach for the FIFA World Cup 2018 on SPN was 254 million viewers which included live matches, wraparound shows, highlights, repeats, surround programming of FIFA World Cup on SPN Sports Network; terrestrial network and video streaming platform like SonyLIV.

  Also Sony introduced four regional language feeds including Malayalam, Bengali, Tamil and Telugu and these were well accepted. The network said 40.7 million viewers across India have sampled the regional commentary feed. The local language feed which includes both four regional languages and Hindi was sampled by 70.7 million viewers, making up 66% of the overall tournament reach. Women viewers contributed 47% of the tournament’s reach. 

   As per the reports the channel was totally excited by the success of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia with the viewership meeting all their expectations. This definitely reflects the passion the sport is seeing in India.

     The broadcaster, which has managed to bring more than 40 advertisers on television, is estimated to have clocked close to Rs 200 crore in advertising revenue. The 2014 edition of FIFA World Cup fetched the network Rs 100 crore of ad revenue.

France beat Australia in 2-1 and make their opening in to the World Cup 2018 match

     In the first match between France and Australia  , France beat Australia 2-1 in their grant opening World Cup 2018 match on Saturday after the Video Assistant Referee system was used for the first time in the competition's history. Antoine Griezmann had a penalty awarded thanks to VAR and scored before Mile Jedinak equalised for Australia from the spot. Paul Pogba's 81st minute shot bounced over the line off the crossbar to give France a narrow win in the Group C clash at the Kazan Arena. France had dominated the first half of their opening World Cup encounter against Australia but have failed to make a breakthrough against their stubborn opponents. 

     Antoine Griezmann and Kylian Mbappe have posed quite a few problems for the Australians but have been wasteful in the final third. Australia despite defending for large parts of the game had the best chance from a free-kick but were denied by a smart save from Hugo Lloris. 

     France coach Didier Deschamps left Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud on the bench as teenager Mbappe led Les Bleus' front line in Kazan. FIFA World Cup 2018 - Ronaldo hat-trick helps Portugal draw against Spain

     

     The kingmaker Christiano Ronaldo scored a hat trick as Portugal held the lions Spain to an exciting 3-3 draw in the Group B match of the 2018 FIFA World Cup last night. Ronaldo showcased his big match temperament on Friday by scoring in the 4th, 44th and 88th minutes and almost one man play earning a point for Portugal. Star striker Diego Costa (24th, 55th) and full back Nacho (56th) scored for Spain. Ronaldo has now become the only player from Portugal to score at four World Cups. 

     This was the 51st hattrick in the World Cup history. Spain suffered an early setback when Nacho fouled Ronaldo inside the penalty box. The Real Madrid star stepped forward to convert the resultant penalty and give Portugal the lead. Despite the setback, Spain gradually settled down and started to dominate the proceedings. The superior talent in the Spanish ranks gradually started to make its presence felt. Costa found the equaliser for Spain 20 minutes later. The big centre forward used his physical strength to beat Pepe to a high ball and dribbling two defenders before bulging the net with a superb finish. 

     Ronaldo put Portugal back in the lead a minute before half-time when a mistake by Spain goalkeeper David de Gea handed him his second goal of the match. Spain surged ahead immediately after the restart with back-to-back goals. Costa levelled things up for a second time when he scored off a free kick. Nacho produced an excellent finish from outside the box in the very next minute to put Spain in the lead.

Grant Opening for FIFA World Cup 2018 at Russia

      The World Cup kicked off in Russia just now as the host nation took on Saudi Arabia in front of 80,000 people in Moscow after President Vladimir Putin officially declared the tournament open.

     Russia is spending more than $13 billion on hosting football's showpiece, the most important event in the country since the 1980 Moscow Summer Olympics. The buildup has been dogged by controversy and diplomatic scandals and has shone a light on the challenges facing Putin's Russia.

    On this day of the curtainraiser, Russia freed the main opposition figure to Putin, Alexei Navalny, from jail after he served a 30-days sentence for organising an illegal protest.

IPL- Chennai Superkings Beat Royal Challengers Bangaluru for Five Wickets

     In the stunning match in IPL cricket match played in Bengaluru tonight, Chennai Super Kings recorded a thrilling five wicket chase victory over Royal Challengers Bangalore.

     The venue for the IPL matches in Chennai will be changed. The decision was taken following the Cauvery issue. In the match against Kolkata Knight Riders yesterday, there were protesters in the stadium. 

       

     The six matches of Chennai Super Kings will now be held at the home ground Chepauk Stadium. Trivandrum had earlier claimed that the venue was likely to be changed. Instead, the venue has no final decision.

     In the Commonwealth Games, India won the men's gold medals after the victory in women's gold medal in the table tennis tournament. The Indian team defeated Nigeria 3-0 in the final.      India won the fifth ODI against Australia held at Nagpur and also won the series by 4-1. In the fifth match Indian player Rohit Sharma recorded a memorable milestone with his beautiful century and India beats Australia by seven wickets in the fifth ODI and hence after the series wins their number one spot in the ICC rankings was set strongly.

Kuldeep Yadav Hat-Trick Makes India to Get 50 Runs Win Over Australia

    

    India won the second ODI against Australia held at Eden Gardens Kolkata today. Indian spinner Kuldeep Yadav recorded after being the third Indian to take a hat-trick wicket in ODI history. India defeated the opponent Australia by 50 runs in the second ODI and continuing their dominating run over the listless visitors.

 

   Australia needed 253 to win on a sloppy pitch but the Australian players once again failed to face Indian bowlers including Yuzvendra Chahal (2/34) and Chinaman Yadav (3/54), who plays important role in limiting the opponent’s score at 202 in 43.1 overs.

 

     Kuldeep Yadav becomes the third player along with Kapil Dev (1991) and Chetan Sharma (1987) in a select club of Indians who have taken a hat-trick in ODI matches. The victory was India's eighth continuous in a row in ODIs.

  

    India's sensational bowling performance came after captain Virat Kohli made a better score 92 with opener Ajinkya Rahane who scored 55 helps India to take a fine score of 252.

    

   In the first match Australia defeated by the Indian spinners in Chennai also in this match they seem to be helpless here with seven batsmen recording single digit scores.
Every time Australia tried to make their way back into the match, Indian spinners responded with a breakthrough and especially by the pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar (3/9) in the early overs.
Kumar takes the important wickets of David Warner and Hilton Cartwright to leave the Australians at nine for two.
Steven Smith (59) and Travis Head (39) tried hard to score in the innings, ending up with a 76 run stand. 

  The left hander flicked a full toss straight to mid-wicket to become Chahal's wicket and Australia found them under pressure again.

P.V.Sindhu Enters into Korean Open Final

     The Indian badminton player P.V.Sindhu defeated China's He Bingjiao in the semi finals of Korea Open Series and entered in to the final of the tournament today. The match between the players was awesome and both the players performed well in the semi final match. Sindhu tried a lot to defeat the world champion Nozomi Okuhara of Japan and finally wins. The 22 year old P.V.Sindhu had come into the match with a 3-5 head to head record after the match failure from the Chinese at the Asia Badminton Championship this year.
 

     

     Sindhu won the semi final match with a score of 21-10, 17-21, 21-16 which takes an hour and six minutes.

     In the one-off T 20 match between India and Sri Lanka, India beat Sri Lanka by seven wickets held at Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. India won the toss and let the opponents to bat first. Sri Lanka has scored 170 runs after losing 7 wickets in 20 overs. By chasing a score of 171, India scored 174 runs for 3 wickets in 19.2 overs.

M.S.Dhoni Sets New World Record of 100 Stumpings in Fifth ODI Against Sri Lanka

  

      Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the mister cool in Indian cricket makes a new world record today in ODI cricket. The former Indian captain MS Dhoni has become the first wicket keeper in the ODI cricket history after making the 100^th stumping today during the fifth match against Sri Lanka at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Sunday and he overtaken the former Sreelankan player Kumar Sangakkara's record of 99.

     M.S.Dhoni reached this record in his 301st ODI match when he stumped Akila Dananjaya. This was his 97^th stumping in India blues, while the remaining three having come while representing an Asia XI in 2007. SriLankan wicketkeeper cum batsman Kumar Sangakkara retired in 2015 with 99 stumpings to his credit in an ODI career that he started in 2000. At third in the all time ODI history is Sri Lankan Romesh Kaluwitharana with 75, followed by Pakistan's Moin Khan with 73 and Australian Adam Gilchrist with 55.

      M.S.Dhoni's record looks to be beaten in future by some active cricketers; the next best after him is Mushfiqur Rahim of Bangladesh with 40 stumpings in 176 ODIs. Among the 100 stumpings by Dhoni, the 19 where during the bowling of Harbhajan Singh which is followed by Ravindra Jadeja, off whom he has done 15 stumpings and it also followed by 14 off R Ashwin. Kumar Sangakkara remains the most successful wicketkeeper in ODI cricket, with a total of 482 dismissals which consists of 383 catches and 99 stumpings. Dhoni is second with 381 which include 281 catches and 100 stumpings.

     The American player, Floyd Mayweather who broke Mac Gregor's first professional fight, celebrated his 50th consecutive victory. The opponent Gregor's face was washed in the blood in the  match held at Las Vegas in US. The match was to be played in 12 rounds of three minutes each. But the verdict came in the tenth round. Shahid Afridi Wishes India On The Occasion Of Independence Day Celebration

Nehru Trophy Boat Race 2017 More Than One Lakh People to Witness The Traditional Sports Event in Kerala

The Nehru Trophy Boat Race 2017 will be held today  at Punnamada Lake in Kerala. There are 78 different types of boats including 20 snake boats each with a carrying capacity of about 100 rowers will take part in the 65th edition of the boat race. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated the race in the presence of thousands of viewers from around the world in a traditional atmospheric event at 2.30 pm. All arrangements have been already completed for the race, according to officials since a record number of 78 boats will take part in the 65th Nehru trophy boat race.

The boats that clock minimum time in the heats will take part in the final and losers’ final. The heats of smaller boats commenced at 11 a.m. with five Iruttukuthi A Grade boats, 25 Iruttukuthi B Grade boats, nine Veppu A Grade boats, six Veppu B Grade boats, and three Churulan boats. Women will participate in the Thara and Kettuvallom categories.

     From this year there are 16 snake boats will fight each other for each other for the silver trophy gifted by the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India.This boat race is one of the unique boat race that does not belongs to any religious believes while all other traditional boat races like Chambakulam Moolam Boat Race, Aranmula Uthrattadi Boat Race and Payipad Boat Race are associated with traditional believes. The Nehru Trophy Boat Race is associated with the visit of Jawaharlal Nehru to Alappuzha in 1952.

     From this year a fool proof mechanized starting system has been put in place by the infrastructure committee of the Nehru Trophy Boat Race Society which organizes the race. The new system has been introduced as disputes over starting had marred the smooth conduct of the event on several occasions in the past. A digital display system has been set up to ensure accuracy in the timings.          The official telecast of the race will be done by the national television channel, Doordarshan. There will be a webcast on http://www.webcast.gov.in/nehrutrophy. Special boat services will be available to transport spectators from the Nehru pavilion after the race. The heart of Alappuzha, Kuttanad must be in happy situation throughout the day of Nehru Trophy.
